Clothing consumption has risen from 7Kg per person ten years ago to 10Kg in 2013 and is likely to continue to rise with living standards.  Every Kg of cotton requires 20,000 litres of water in the manufacturing process but scientists at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm have developed a process which creates new fibres from used clothing and recently showcased the first garment made entirely from recycled cotton.
